Ryde The largest town on the Isle of Wight, Ryde offers elegant Victorian buildings, many restaurants and pubs. Along the esplanade and seafront you can enjoy 10 pin bowling at the LA Bowl, ice skating at Planet Ice and a mini fun fair for the children, called Peter Pan's. You will find great nightlife in Ryde. The Balcony is the local nightclub and many restaurants and pubs dominate the High Street. The Royal Victoria Arcade contains a number of boutiques and antique shops plus an intriguing underground market. Ryde pier at nearly 1/2 mile long is the 2nd longest pier in Great Britain. A high speed passenger catamaran operates between Portsmouth and Ryde pier head, where the railway line from Shanklin terminates using 1930's London underground trains. Next to the pier is the Hovercraft terminal which links to the mainland in less than 10 minutes. Ryde has six miles of glorious sandy beaches with plenty of activities for all the family along the promenade. Close to Ryde is Havenstreet railway where old steam trains still run a local service.
